Island and Its Visitors 2021 - 2023

I began to develop this body of work in early 2021. Being away from my family in Taiwan, separated from loved ones, and losing an important family member during this time were the 3 major events that formed this project. During this solitary time, I examine personal / romantic relationships through folktales and stories I’ve learned in my childhood. I want to create a series of images that stage a whole cycle of a person's life from beginning to end. Panels expand from one after another yet connected as one. It can be viewed from any viewpoint, upside-down, inside-out and vice versa; separate stories co-exist in space yet blending together, which lead to overlapping and often paradoxical timelines.
